People’s College Wexford

We are a non-profit organisation offering evening classes in Wexford town. Our classes are non-accredited, delivered in a fun, relaxed atmosphere during Autumn, Winter and Spring.

In-conjunction with The People’s College, Wexford Council of Trade Unions are one of two providers in Ireland offering adult education for trade unionists, their families and the general public.

We offer various course topics including:

  • European Languages
  • Arts and Creativity
  • Local History
  • Social Studies
  • Sign Language

As a non-profit organization it is important that our courses cover their own running costs. Therefore, unless the number of students enrolling for a course is sufficient to cover tutor fees the class cannot go ahead. This includes our strict policy on no refunds given after course commencement.

Courses are strictly for ages 18+

A history of the People’s College

Set up 1948, to provide workers’ education, it continues to provide general adult education – languages, social political studies, literature, art appreciation and cultural activities as well as personal development and communication skills – for trade unionists, their families and the general public.

The College is part of the European Workers’ Education movement which emphasises education for democracy. This involves creating a space where workers can study, reflect on and react to their continually changing society as well as develop their intellectual, social and creative potential. An integral part of the system is the active participation of the students in the decision-making process and organisational structures of the College.

“The working class must be free, not only economically, but intellectually”- Jim Larkin 1914
